Even though summer isn’t officially ending until late September, with the school starting next week, you can already feel the “new season” starting. Backpacks and lunch bags… earlier bedtime… settling into a new routine. It’s usually around this time that families start thinking about getting photos done for the year, ones that also make for a good holiday card. That’s exactly what our fall mini sessions in Maine & New Hampshire are for.
What are fall mini sessions?
Fall mini sessions are shorter, simpler versions of full family sessions that are offered from September to October every year. There are no props or elaborate setups, just carefully chosen locations, ones that show off what makes the Seacoast the Seacoast, with your family right at the center of it.
Do you use props?
We don’t use props or elaborate setups for our fall minis. The locations we choose do that work instead, showing off the beauty of New Hampshire & Maine, without ever pulling focus from your family.
Is this for the whole family?
Absolutely! During your fall mini session, we’ll get the whole family photos along with a few different groupings, whatever combination matters most to you. And if you’d rather keep it simple, just the kids or a mommy and me session, that works too.
Where in New Hampshire & Maine are these fall minis held?
Our fall minis are held in various locations throughout New Hampshire and Maine, with a focus on the Seacoast area: Portsmouth, Rye, New Castle, Dover, Durham, Exeter, Hampton in NH, and York, Ogunquit, Wells, and Kennebunk in Maine.
How long are these minis?
These fall mini sessions are 20 minutes long which is perfect for the little ones since they typically have shorter attention spans. Depending on how many children you have, we may recommend booking 2 spots, so there is enough time for individual photos of each child without anyone feeling rushed.
Will 20 minutes be enough?
We have been working with families with kids of all ages for years; and Kiah, as a mom herself, knows exactly how to make the most of your time with her. We have included a sample gallery below so you can see what a fall mini session could look like.
When do you do these minis?
Fall mini sessions typically run from September into October. Booking for these minis open in August. The best way to know as soon as dates are set is to join our VIP List; our VIP List gets first access before open the minis to the public.
Who are these for?
Fall minis are a great fit if you’re looking for something shorter and simpler than a full session: no extensive planning, just a focused 20 minutes with your family in a beautiful Seacoast location.
They’re also a natural starting point if you’ve never worked with a photographer before, or if this would be your first time booking with Harbor & Wild.

Are mini sessions worth it?
A mini session will not replace a full family session if you are looking for a large, varied gallery. What it does well is give you a small, intentional set of images from exactly where your family is right now, this season, before it becomes next year’s memory instead of this year’s photo.
For a lot of families, that is the whole point: proof that this season happened the way it did. The way your kids looked. The way your daughter finds comfort on your shoulder. The way your son laughs, dimples and all.
